Post secondary education is not enough to compete in today's ultra-modern global economy where success is measured by speed, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Unfortunately by age 25 most Gyase citizens have not earned a high school certificate or credential. GCF's focus is on helping the community improve completion rates at the various levels of education – basic, secondary and university levels through providing the financial support and information needed for the achievement such goals.
Young people who are given early access to information and communications technologies (ICT) tend to become early adopters and adapters of the technologies, skills valued for spurring innovation and community growth. Youth are at the forefront of societal transformation through ICT because technology is what they have grown up with, what they know more about than their parents and what gives them an edge. With the Internet, young people have acquired a powerful new tool to connect, communicate, innovate and take action on things that matter to them on a scale that transcends their locality, making them global actors. It is in this regard that the foundation's strategies are geared towards a multiple focus on ICT learning (formal or informal) and entrepreneurial skills.
The foundation also acknowledges the fact that ICT learning and entrepreneurial skills alone is not enough to unleash youth potential in creating change for themselves and for the community. Mechanisms that facilitate youth action, support their learning and help them mobilize resources are also needed. GCF center of attention is to revitalize efforts to restore the culture and tradition of the community, by creating the much needed learning resources for schools and homes. The foundation will work with elders and wisdom keepers to make traditional customs and ceremonies a part of the community's daily life. Visual artist will be encouraged to share their unique vision with the world thereby building a social and collaborative network between the young and the old.
The foundation believes that, sustained access to meaningful learning that has value is critical to long term improvements in output, the reduction of inter-generational cycles of poverty, demographic transition, preventive health care, the empowerment of women and reductions in inequality.
